PRIZES

Prize Pool TBD!

This tournament has also been certified as an American Riichi Association (ARA) Certified Tournament, and based on the number of participants, eligible players attempting to qualify for the World Riichi Championship (WRC) through the USA will be awarded the corresponding points for their placement as detailed on the ARA webpage. For reference, RNO 2025 awarded 187 ranking points to first place and awarded points through 53rd place.

RULES

RNO26 will use the Saikouisen Shinkisen ruleset, notable features of which include red fives (akadora) and 30/10 uma. The full Saikouisen rules, etiquette and penalties can be reviewed here.

All players are expected to participate with a competitor mindset, as described in the Saikouisen rules document:

  • All players must strive to be fair to everyone during a match

  • All players must be obligated to have a referee mindset at all times

  • The ruling of the judge/referee must be followed during a match

  • You must play for your own benefit

  • Every effort needs to be made to ensure that the game proceeds promptly

STRUCTURE

The tournament will be 10 hanchan of a pure cumulative format, with no top cut. Prizes and rankings will be determined by your total score at the end of all 10 games. For all 10 hanchan, match pairings will be created using a fixed group count pairing system. This means players are ordered by total score after each round and divided into a fixed number of groups to create the pairings for the next round, as seen below.

FOOD AND DRINK

Water and coffee will be offered to players from the start of each tournament. All dark-colored drinks, including coffee, are not allowed in the carpeted Sanctuary room, so please dispose of your drink in advance if you are slated to play there.

The tournament will not be providing lunch, but there are countless eating establishments of various cuisines within a 2 block radius of the venue.

HOUSING

There is no hotel specifically associated with the venue, but there are many options in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens on direct train lines to the venue.
