RULES
We will use the 2022 WRC ruleset with optional modifications 2.1 - Red Fives, 3.2 - Nagashi Mangan, 4.1 Uma (30/10), and 4.4 Kazoe Yakuman.
Additionally, for the first time at RNO, honba will be worth 1500 points rather than the usual 300, a rule also known as basengo or "big honba" that is a typical addition to NYC rulesets.

We expect good will and fair sportsmanship from all attendees. ​

STRUCTURE​
The tournament will be 10 hanchan of a pure cumulative format, with no top cut. Prizes and rankings will be determined by your total score at the end of all 10 games. For all 10 hanchan, match pairings will be created using a fixed group count pairing system. This means players are ordered by total score after each round and divided into a fixed number of groups to create the pairings for the next round, as seen below.

FOOD
Lunch, snacks, water, coffee and tea on both days of the tournament are offered complimentary with your admission!

If you are not interested in the venue’s lunch offerings, there are countless eating establishments of various cuisines within a 2 block radius of the venue.

There is no hotel specifically associated with the venue, but there are many options in Manhattan and Queens on direct train lines to the venue.

REFUND POLICY
By submitting payment we assume you will participate in the tournament. Refunds for withdrawals will only be honored in the case of emergencies (e.g. serious illness, flight delays/cancellations). If you are unclear as to what constitutes a valid emergency, please reach out to us.

Mahjong Ceramics Sales: Local artist Neil Chen will be selling his beautiful tenbo-themed mahjong cups, mugs, and other pottery. Riichi Nomi shugi sets will also be available for purchase at his booth! (8:30pm - finish)

Sunday, July 27th: Day 2 of RNO runs from 9:30am - 7:20pm. Following Day 2, there will be an award ceremony, and mahjong free play until 11pm.
​
Monday, July 28th: Riichi Nomi has partnered with Sparrow’s Nest Studio to open from 12pm-10pm on Monday for more mahjong! The studio, in midtown Manhattan, is fully equipped with Japanese scoring autotables. The RNO participant rate for Monday free play at Sparrow’s Nest Studio is $10 for an all-day pass. Bring your badge to get the special rate!
